The Days
by: Ann

The Days When I Feel the World is Against Me:

Do painless and weightless go hand in hand?
I strive to erase each ache of my heart
With every pound off my body.
Every bite, each morsel
Allowed entrance into my mouth brings a new heartbreak.
One simple solution exists.
Deny the pain.
Closing my lips, I protect my heart from each dagger
Determined to destroy my soul.
I create my own shield small but still strong.

The Days When I Feel I can Win the War:

When the earth rocks around me,
I yearn for a peace inside.
Upon turning the next corner with danger ahead,
I search for security
But know not where to turn.
Listening intently, I discover a calm within myself
And learn a dependence
On my body, my soul, my heart, my mind.
Never again will the turmoil of the world
Induce flight,
But, rather, each confrontation
Will create strength.
