Total Health Concepts
What is health? I believe that health is more than just the absence of disease. Health involves well-being of body, mind and spirit. It is a state of equilibrium or balance in which our defense mechanisms and immune systems can efficiently handle most of the hazards that life presents, whether they are pathogenic organisms, toxic substances, or stress factors of various kinds. Are you happy with the way you feel? Is your energy level what you'd like it to be? In today's world of high stressed, fast-paced lifestyles, environmental pollution and depleted ozone, degenerative and chronic conditions are rampant. Chronic disease currently accounts for 85 percent of the national health care bill in the U.S., and we are beginning to accept our collective aches, pains and lack of energy as normal. C. Everett Koop, former Surgeon General, stated that dietary imbalances are the leading preventable contributors to premature death in the U.S.Do you work in a high stress environment? Is your job performance being affected by frequent colds, flu, PMS, allergies, headaches, depression, sinus infections, ad infinitum.....? Did you ever stop to consider that your stress level may be a major contributor to these conditions? If you have children, are they ill frequently and if so, does it affect your work? Do you survive on coffee, doughnuts, sodas, or other "foods" devoid of nutrients just to help you get through the day? Or maybe you're feeling pretty good most of the time, but you'd like to improve your focus, concentration, or energy level. If you're not happy with the way you feel, what are you doing about it? Are you creating a lifestyle and habits that will contribute to wellness, or are you overwhelmed by the hundreds of products available which promise better health? If so, you're not alone. Consuming vitamin and mineral supplements can become a balancing act and it is easy to be misled by clever advertising. Selecting and preparing fresh organic foods is a great idea, but certainly time consuming. And even if you feel you're doing your best to have healthy habits, you are probably breathing polluted air, ingesting chemicals and eating food grown in depleted soils. If you had a new, expensive, top-of-the-line car, you would certainly put the best fuel in it and keep it well-maintained, even though you would probably trade it in periodically for a new model. How much more valuable is your own body? It, unlike a car, is irreplaceable.
