As a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the field of eating disorders, Dr. Brewerton provides comprehensive outpatient evaluation and treatment using an integrated biopsychosocial approach. Dr. Brewerton is board certified in general, child-adolescent and forensic psychiatry, and he is certified in the use of EMDR. He is Past-president of the Eating Disorders Research Society and has served on the Board of Directors of the Academy of Eating Disorders. He is also listed in the Best Doctors of America, Top 100 Psychiatrists in the U.S., Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. Dr. Brewerton was the founder and director of the Eating Disorders Program at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, beginning in 1987 and which closed November 2002. Dr. Brewerton is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and other publications. He is the Editor of the "Clinical Handbook for Eating Disorders: An Integrated Approach," which was published in 2004 by Marcel-Dekker, Inc. Dr. Brewerton charges $300 for an initial evaluation, $150 for individual psychotherapy and $250 for family therapy. However, he does not accept or file insurance.
