Stephanie M. Nilsen, PhD
I specialize in treating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, emotional eating, weight management, and body dissatisfaction. I also run groups on healthy weight management as well as bulimia/binge eating.
My approach to therapy incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and dialectical behavior therapy to help you reduce symptoms, learn new coping skills, and address underlying issues. Together we will seek to understand what has contributed to your difficulties and help you end your food struggles and reclaim your life. My manner is warm, interactive, collaborative, and non-judgmental.
I accept insurance and can facilitate referrals to nutritionists and psychiatrists if needed.
Prior to starting private practice in 2000, I worked at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center. I received my BA from Johns Hopkins University and my PhD from Duke University.
