A complete medical workup is performed on every patient, including bone densitometry and echocardiogram as needed. Medical specialists with expertise in the treatment of eating disordered patients, such as cardiologists, are also available as needed. The PHD EDP philosophy:•We treat individuals who exhibit the symptoms of an eating disorder as defined by accepted diagnostic criteria.•We only accept individuals for inpatient treatment who require the temporarily increased support and structure that the hospital setting provides.•We believe that the hospitalization of an individual for treatment of an eating disorder will inevitably effect family members. We also suggest that family factors may have much to contribute to a successful recovery program. Therefore, we expect family involvement in treatment activities.•We expect that patients admitted to the program will acknowledge their own illness and take responsibility for their recovery and for the value of their treatment.•Successful treatment depends on the patient's commitment to honesty with self and others.•Professional, comprehensive care for all patients is provided regardless of race, creed or color.PHD is part of Texas Health Resources, a faith-based healthcare system.
