Phoenix Interfaith Counseling
An Effective Out-Patient Treatment for Bulimia and Binge Eating. Phoenix Interfaith Counseling (PIC) offers a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral outpatient program for the treatment of Binge Eating and Bulimia Nervosa which includes both psychotherapy and nutritional counseling. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been extensively researched and is the treatment of choice for Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating. Research results demonstrate: Clinically significant reductions in binge eating and purging, Reduced dietary restraint, Improved attitudes toward body shape and weight, Striking improvements in measures of depression, self-esteem, social functioning, and personality disorders, Good maintenance of change at both 6-month and 1-year follow-ups. WHAT TO EXPECT: The Overcoming Eating Disorders program at PIC consists of approximately 20 sessions over a period of 6 months. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is problem-oriented, focusing on the present and addressing factors and processes that maintain the eating disorder. Therapists and clients work collaboratively to help clients reach their treatment goals during the following three stages of treatment:Stage 1 – Clients are helped to understand how their thoughts, emotions, actions, and environment contribute to their eating disorders. Behavioral techniques are used to replace binge eating with a stable pattern of regular eating.Stage 2 - Focus is on modifying thoughts, beliefs, and values that maintain the problem.Stage 3 - Focus is on the maintenance of change and relapse prevention.
