Montrose Manor

Montrose Manor

Montrose Manor is an established Eating Disorder Clinic situated in Cape Town. Montrose offers a three month residential program and an eight week out-patient program treating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and other forms of disordered eating. Both programs are based on a systemic approach, incorporating psychological and cognitive interventions. The 12 step Minnesota model is also included. Clients not only develop a healthy relationship with food and exercise, but also do in depth work on themselves and their relationships with others. Family work plays an important role in this process. Our treatment program does not focus on weight and calories. Instead, our dietician introduces clients to a healthy mealplan, with the focus on a different relationship with food and weight. The meals are all provided by a qualified chef.. Over the three month treatment period a client’s weight gradually adapts to the healthy mealplan which is provided. The same approach is used with regards to exercise. Clients are assessed by a biokineticist and an exercise plan is created for each client with the focus on a healthy relationship towards exercise. The three month residential program is divided into three phases: During the first phase clients attend both group and individual sessions and meals and snacks are plated. In the second phase, clients continue to attend all groups, but partake in the supervised self-service of meals. Family sessions are included in this phase. In the third phase, clients prepare themselves for discharge and are encouraged to create a balanced daily structure for life outside of treatment. Clients can do a course or voluntary work, find their own support by means of a sponsor , plan some of their own meals including purchasing of ingredients and cooking. Montrose has a self-contained flat where phase three clients can learn to become more independent. The eight week out-patient program takes place on Monday and Wednesday evenings and on Saturday mornings, allowing for clients to continue with their daily lives be that work, study or other routine. The treatment is conducted in groups , but individual sessions are held with the dietician and biokinetikist. During the week, the clients will have a supervised evening meal and on the Saturday, they will be given a snack. Two family sessions will also be included during the eight week out-patient program Part of the outpatient treatment plan is to help clients source a support system in the area in which they live to ensure ongoing recovery.
