Marie Sacco, Ph.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders and substance abuse treatment. I received my Ph.D. from Columbia University where my research explored the impact of childhood trauma on adult women. I did post-doctoral training at the Addiction Institute of New York. I worked as clinical coordinator and supervising psychologist at the Program for Managing Eating Disorders in NYC.
Eating disorders are symptoms that take on their own life. My work addresses the underlying emotional meaning of ED symptoms while providing pragmatic help to change behavior, in the process addressing issues of depression, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties. My approach is psychodynamic though informed by cognitive-behavioral theory. I work collaboratively with MDs and RDs to tackle eating and body image problems safely.
While my practice is limited to late adolescents and adults, I consult with parents whose children struggle with eating disorders or substance abuse.
