Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., CEDS
Dr. Muhlheim specializes in providing evidenced-based treatment (treatments proven effective in research studies) for eating disorders including bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and body image issues. During graduate school in the 1990s she trained in a bulimia research lab and eating disorders have remained an area of focus ever since. She has expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which has proven effective in treatment of adults with eating disorders and is especially promising for treatment of bulimia nervosa. For the treatment of anorexia nervosa in adolescents, the treatment of choice is Family-Based Treatment (FBT or Maudsley Approach). Dr. Muhlheim attended a workshop by Dr. James Lock in 2010 to further her knowledge of and training in this effective treatment. She is currently working towards certification in FBT. This approach enlists the support of the entire family in the patient's recovery.
