In practice since 1980 Joanna has come to believe that treating the eating disorder is one phase of recovery. Developing mental and emotional capacities necessary for living a substantial life in harmony with the deep and honest values of the particular individual is also critical. Joanna listens to her patients and provides understanding that leads to self understanding and self respect. While always addressing eating disorder issues she also supports and encourages thoughtful and careful experimentation with the arts, body movement, education, careers and relationships. In this way her patients have an opportunity to heal and grow strong. They begin to discover what is healthy and meaningful in their lives.
