Heather Barcroft, M.A.,LPC
I have specialized training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), proven to treat not only eating disorders, but also co-occurring problems like depression, anxiety, self-injury, suicidal thoughts/behaviors, and trauma-related issues. it's often necessary to begin therapy from a cognitive/behavioral perspective in order to learn and practice coping skills that decrease ED thoughts and behaviors. When symptoms have decreased, I believe the real and lasting work comes through gaining insight into the factors that began and maintained the eating disorder, as well as learning new ways to cope with negative feelings. For many, recovery also involves working with a psychiatrist, dietitian, or family therapy, as well as art and movement therapy. I believe it's necessary to coordinate complete care with a multifaceted treatment team.
With a lot of hard work, I believe that recovery is possible- I've seen it happen for people.
