Friends Hospital
Friends Hospital, founded by Quakers in 1813, offers an inpatient program for individuals with anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. We are a small, intimate program serving up to 14 patients at a time, ages 13+, both male and female. Participants are involved in a range of therapies to alter unhealthy eating behaviors, understand underlying problems and learn better ways of resolving stress. Our individual approach allows flexibility in treatment to meet each client's needs. There is access to medical assessment, psychopharmocology and psychological testing as needed. Treatment activities include individual, family and group therapy, art therapy, psychoeducational groups and nutritional counseling. The treatment team is under the direction of Michael Pertschuk, MD, who has more than two decades of treatment and research experience in eating disorders. The program is located on the beautiful campus of Friends Hospital in its own space separate from the patient areas. Private rooms are provided for each patient with access to the Hospital's 100-acre garden campus in Northeast Philadelphia. Friends Hospital accepts most private insurances, Medicaid and Medicare.
