Dr. Cheryl McCarthy, Ph.D.
I am a licensed psychologist with 18 years of experience in the mental health field. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and womens issues using a very "direct approach" to treatment. That is, together with my patient, we work to to enhance the patient's self esteem and correct their negative perceptions related to their body image. I use a variety of techniques to help patients with these issues drawing from many models including, but not limited to, relaxation and/or hynotherapy, spirituality, cognitive/behavioral techniques, Gestalt work, and insight-oriented-work. Patients commonly report great improvement after 6 months of treatment or sooner. My office is conveniently located in Rosemont, about 1 1/2 miles from the Blue Route, and I accept many commercial insurances and/or I am willing to work with patients on a sliding scale.
