Eating Disorders ServiceThe Cheadle Royal Eating Disorders Service offers a full range and flexible package of treatment and support on an outpatient, daypatient or inpatient basis for individuals with either anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.The Eating Disorders TeamA Consultant Psychiatrist leads the medical team and is supported by:• Senior nurse/therapists• Cognitive behaviour therapists• Psychotherapists• Occupational therapists• Counsellors• Family therapists• Physiotherapists• Psychodrama, art and music therapists are also involved in programmes as appropriateObjectives of the Service include:• Monitoring and treating physical and psychological problems• Preventing vomiting and laxative abuse• Enhancing self-esteem• Weight gain where necessary• Preventing bingeing• Improving life skills• Addressing co-morbidity• Addressing anorexic thinking and lifestyle issuesProgramme Content• One to one consultations• Psycho-dynamic group work• Physical exercise• Body image work• Psychodrama• Art therapy• Nutrition education• Relaxation therapy• Aromatherapy• Self-esteem training• Confidence building workFeesReferrals are accepted for both NHS funded and privately funded patients. Funding must be approved by the appropriate referring purchaser before the commencement of treatment.ReferralsThe Eating Disorders Service offers rapid access to both outpatient appointments and inpatient beds. Referrals must be made by a GP, consultant psychiatrist or occupational health doctor.
