CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDY FOR BONE HEALTH INVOLVING AN INVESTIGATIONAL MEDICATION

Significant weight loss in young or adolescent girls can cause impairment of normal bone growth. Eating disorders and significant low weight can cause long-term damage to bones of young girls. The purpose of this research study is to test the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug for treating bone loss in girls, ages 10-17, who have previously started their periods (and have possibly stopped), are significantly underweight, or have been diagnosed with an eating disorder.

Girls, ages 10-17, who have previously started their periods and who qualify for this study, (with the approval of a parent or guardian), will receive free study-related medical care (bone scans), healthcare information and study medicines, including vitamin supplements, at no cost. Participants (as well as parents or guardians involved in this study) will also receive compensation for time and travel.
