On Thursday, May 29, 2003 the NBC program "The John Walsh Show" will be taping a show tentatively entitled, "Pre-teens with Eating Disorders". The purpose of this program is to spread awareness of how this disease is affecting children as young as 10 and 11 years old. Throughout the hour we will hear from pre-teens who are currently suffering from an eating disorder and learn what signs, every parent must look for, to recognize if his or her child suffers from this dangerous disease. In addition we will have expert advice of what a parent can do if they discover that their child suffers from an eating disorder.

If you don't know about John Walsh, let me tell you about him and why he has finally decided to host his own daytime talk show. John's six-year-old son, Adam, was abducted and murdered in 1982. Following Adam's death, John used his grief as a catalyst to help missing and exploited children throughout our country. He has established up The Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the hopes of helping families experiencing the loss of a child to abduction. In addition he is also the host of Saturday evening's America's Most Wanted. He is using his new daytime talk show to address the many topical issues we read about in the news everyday.

If you or someone you love is a pre-teen suffering from an eating disorder and are interested in sharing your story with us, please contact one of the Associate Producers listed below. If you have any questions or want more information on this show, please don't hesitate to call.

Learn the "Body Double" to provide containment for controlled regression and conscious expression of feeling. Self-experience and personal growth for your own body-mind-spirit as a practitioner working with trauma survivors. Residential workshop at Rising Phoenix (90 minutes from Baltimore/DC in the lovely Maryland mountains)

June 19-22, 2003: Conscious Transformation: Healing your Body-Mind. The final workshop in this series provides clients the opportunity to go beyond the physical masks of self-protection to find integration and aliveness. Using the Therapeutic Spiral Model, we will create a safe residential community for people who have previously attended workshops, to repair core trauma memories. Let go of the body memories from the past and learn to live in the present, connected to others and to your vision in life.

H.R. 873, the Eating Disorders Awareness, Prevention and Education Act of 2003 was introduced by Representatives Judy Biggert (R-IL) and Ted Strickland (D-OH) during eating disorders awareness week. We have worked with the Members to draft the language and now to promote the passage of the bill.

This is the only eating disorders specific bill currently in Congress. We want to get as much support for the bill as possible.
