My name is Nadia Ahlenius and I am presently undertaking a doctoral course in Psychotherapeutic & Counselling Psychology at the University of Surrey in England. This is advanced professional training in the practice, research and academic aspects of Counselling Psychology, which is accredited by the British Psychological Society.

As part of this course, I am conducting a research project with adult daughters of mothers with eating disorders; I hope to explore their experiences of their relationship with their mother. This study is being supervised by Dr. Adrian Coyle who is one of the Course Directors, and Mrs. Wendy Gairdner who is a professional tutor on the course and a registerd famliy therapist who works in the St. George's Eating Disorder Service in South West London. This project has been approved by the University's Advisory Committee on Ethics.

Despite the immense rise in the prevalence of eating disorders over the last four decades, there is relatively little research on the experiences of the children of mother's with eating disorders. I am hoping that my project will shed light on these experiences and will help identlify effective ways of supporting families where the mother is suffering from an eating disorder.

The study will require me to conduct interviews with adult daughters of mothers with eating disorders (or in the case of non UK residents, a questionnaire). This interview will last between forty five to sixty minutes and will focus on their relationship with their mother during childhood, adolescence and currently. All information obtained in these interviews or through questionnaires will remain confidential and in the resulting research report, no participant will be identifiable to other people. Participants will be able to withdraw from the study at any stage.

If you are interested in participating, please contact me by e-mail.
